Why were the Standards updated?

Modified on Wed, Sep 18 at 11:02 AM

Throughout The IIA’s history, its professional standards have been updated numerous times. The last time the profession’s standards were updated was in 2017. In 2021, the International Internal Audit Standards Board began a project to update the 2017 International Professional Practices Framework, including the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. The multiyear project resulted in a completely new structure for IPPF and the newly named Global Internal Audit Standards, released in January 2024 and fully effective (with full conformance expected) on January 9, 2025.

The IIASB will periodically review and continue to update the Global Internal Audit Standards as deemed necessary to stay current with the practice of internal auditing around the world.
