How do internal and external assessments differ?

Internal assessments must include ongoing of the performance of the internal audit activity and periodic reviews performed by self-assessments. External assessments require an outside team of independent reviewers to evaluate conformance with the Standards, the use of successful practices, and the efficiency and effectiveness of the internal audit function and is at a point in time.
